Phototherapy
Phototherapy is a medical treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to treat certain health conditions.
Common uses include:
Newborn jaundice: The most common use. Light helps break down excess bilirubin in a baby's blood, reducing jaundice caused by Neonatal Jaundice.
Skin disorders: Phototherapy can help treat conditions such as Psoriasis, Eczema, and Vitiligo.
Some mood disorders: Bright-light therapy may be used for Seasonal Affective Disorder.
How it works
The patient is exposed to a special light source for a prescribed period. The light triggers biological changes that help treat the condition.
